Case Study: A Sundar Kand Path and Birthday Party at Gulshan Ikebana Club House
Updated: Oct 1
On 9th June 2026 we handled an event at Gulshan Ikebana Club House that doesn't fit the usual template. It opened with a Sundar Kand path, and moved from there straight into a full birthday party — cake cutting, DJ, live food stalls and children's entertainment. Two very different moods in one evening, and the whole job was in managing the transition between them.
Two Events in One Evening
Combining a religious recitation with a birthday party is more common in NCR than most vendors' websites would suggest, and it needs genuine planning rather than just stacking one on top of the other.
A Sundar Kand path needs a calm, uncluttered space, a respectful atmosphere, and a fixed start that doesn't slip. A birthday party needs music, colour, activity and energy. You cannot run both at once, and you cannot spend forty minutes visibly rebuilding the room between them either.
The way we handle it: everything for the party is staged and ready but held back during the path. Food counters are set but not serving, sound is rigged but silent, activities are positioned but not running. When the path concludes, the evening turns over in minutes rather than stalling. Guests experience it as one continuous event with a change in mood, which is exactly what the family wants.
The Venue: Gulshan Ikebana Club House
Gulshan Ikebana Club House is a society clubhouse, and clubhouse venues come with fixed access windows and shared load-in routes. For an event with a ritual start time that's a hard constraint — the entire build, including the stalls and entertainment that won't be used for the first hour, has to be complete and out of sight before guests arrive.
Starters and Live Stalls
Once the path finished and the party began, the food was built around live counters rather than a static buffet:
Paneer tikka
Golgappe counter
Tikki chaat counter
Dosa stall
Pizza stall
Five live stations is a lot for one evening, and that was deliberate. Live counters spread the crowd across the room instead of forming a single queue, and they give guests something to do in the loose period right after a ceremony ends, when a seated buffet would leave the room flat.
The dosa and pizza stalls also solve a specific problem at a mixed-age event: children who won't touch the main menu will almost always eat from one of those two.
Main Course and Dessert
Kadhai paneer
Malai kofta
Dum aloo Kashmiri
Jalebi rabri
A fully vegetarian main course was the right call given the evening opened with a Sundar Kand path — it keeps the whole event consistent in character rather than creating a jarring shift after the recitation. Dum aloo Kashmiri alongside malai kofta gives you two rich dishes with genuinely different profiles, which matters when the menu is entirely veg.
Jalebi rabri closed it out, served hot.
Entertainment and Activities
For the children we ran a Mickey Mouse jumpy, a magician and a tattoo artist, with a DJ and mocktails carrying the adults through the later part of the night.
That combination is deliberate. The jumpy holds the youngest children continuously with no supervision burden on parents. The magician creates a set-piece that briefly gathers everyone. The tattoo artist absorbs the in-between periods. Between the three, children stay occupied for the full evening rather than in bursts — which is what lets the adults actually enjoy the party.
