First Birthday Party Planning: A Simple Checklist
Updated: 5 days ago
Book the venue six weeks ahead, decoration and catering about a week to ten days ahead, and confirm final numbers in the last three days. A first birthday needs less planning than families expect, and less party than they expect too.

Six Weeks Before
Fix the date and the venue. In a society clubhouse, book the slot early, because weekend slots go first. Decide roughly how many children and how many adults are coming, because both numbers drive the food.

Two to Three Weeks Before
Choose the theme and the colours. For a one year old, pastel themes, Cocomelon and jungle animals work best, and the decoration is really for the parents and the photographs since the child will not remember it. Send invitations.
One Week to Ten Days Before
Book decoration, catering and entertainment. About a week ahead is comfortable, though we take last-minute bookings when a slot is free. Your date is confirmed on WhatsApp. Order the cake in the theme colours, with an eggless option if the family prefers.
The Last Three Days
Confirm the guest count, count the adults as well as the children, and send our team's details to the clubhouse or society gate if passes are needed. Share one contact number for the day, ideally not the parent who will be holding the baby.
On the Day
Our setup takes about 4 hours and the party runs about 3. For a first birthday, keep it shorter if you can. Plan the cake cutting for when the child is usually awake and fed, not at the end when everyone is tired. Nap times beat schedules, every time.
What to Skip
Long games, a late start, and a guest list built from obligation. A first birthday works best with fewer people, a good backdrop, decent food for the adults and one entertainer for the older cousins.
